History: THE BEGINNING:

The very concept of a music band was formed and carried out by Vladimir Shakhrin and Vladimir Begunov ever since they were at school in Sverdlovsk in 1975. Their first experience was «Pyatna» band, then a pop-group under an engineering college, performing at the dancing parties, which was a special case of breaking the restrictions, by playing hits of Beatles, Rolling Stones, T-REX.

The official birthday date of the band Chaif is considered to be 29th of September – the first public performing in Sverdlovsk with the name Chaif used.

WHAT IS CHAIF

The word inventor, Vadim Kukushkin (one of the members of pre-Chaif band) gave the name CHAIF to a special drink, that was an essential element of each rehearsal – a particular sort of Soviet tea [chai], prepared with the help of a soviet coffee machine named «Bodrost» (vivacity). This very drink contributed greatly to the bliss [kaif] of making music together. Merging words CHAI and KAIF – the name was found as CHAIF.

ORANGE LEGENDS
Chaif fans claim themselves as «orange ones». This byname was suggested by the similarity of the emotions, evoked by both orange color and Chaif's music. Namely: both of them liberate people, make people more tolerant to each other and strengthen their will.
One can always join Chaif's community just by putting on any clothes of orange color.

LIFE

At some point the ambitions of the band stepped far beyond the limits of only creating the music. Their interest extended into the social life of the country as well. Chaif has always taken a very active social position, carrying out various charity events, the main guidelines of which are 1) an event must be task-oriented 2) an event must be interesting

Here are only some of these charity events mentioned:


* «Rock Chistoy Vody». (Pure Water Rock Music)
A campaign, launched by Chaif band in 1989, aimed at improvement of ecological state of Volga river. This act was supported by
many russian rock bands, among them: Telivizor, Aukcyon, Nastya, Otrazhenie (Sverdlovsk) and others.


* «Grachi Prileteli» («Here Come the Rooks»)
In 1995 Chaif started a spring Festival «Grachi Prileteli», since then the event has become a good tradition and been held annually.
The main purpose of this action was the introducing new names to the Ekaterinburg's audience. A lot of the bands, discovered by «Grachi Prileteli», later became extremely popular: Ser'ga, VaBank, Tequilajazzz, Splin, Kirpichi and others. Nowadays the main goal of these spring gigs is to give hand to those in need. e.g part of the moneys gathered in 2009 was spent to build an animal shelter in Ekaterinburg.

* In winter 1996 V.Shakhrin and V.Begunov were accompanying the crew of TV Program «Vzglyad» («View») on their way to Chechnya, where they gave 8 volunteer concert up-front. The same year the musicians visited border troops in Tadzhikistan.
